Apple, the Dictator, strikes again

A report is just in from Martin Taylor, which begins as follows:
I went to update the Kobo app on my iPad this morning but stopped when I saw what has changed. The main reason for the update is to cut access to the Kobo ebookstore from within the reading app. Instead, you have to fire up a separate browser, go to their store and make the purchase outside the app.
The aim of this is to give Apple the edge in the e-book app market by blocking any other apps that sell e-books via Apple products. It's not only Kobo that's going to be affected: Nook Kids’ latest update, released on Friday, removed a link to the Nook ebookstore. In a more extreme case, the Google Books app disappeared entirely last Thursday, with no explanation or info on whether it will return.
So far Kindle hasn't changed, but it's unlikely that it will be unaffected by Apple's new policies, which are intended to give more and more income to Apple for the use of their app space.
Did I use the word 'greed' anywhere? Nope, not so far.
