Registering a Domain

The other day we received an email at work from a New Zealand company advertising domains and various other such items – the typical sort of thing these companies sell together. Their prices looked interesting, and for some time I’ve been debating getting a proper domain name for my blogger.com blog.
So I wrote to them. I’m not sure exactly how long it is since I wrote – it’s at least a week and probably getting on for a fortnight. So far the response has been Zilch.
One company that isn’t going to make much money.
Domain registration with Orble was easy, but some other companies make it a nightmare. You’re expected to fill in so many details that you have to wonder what exactly it is they want to know about you. Of course, I guess you can buy a domain name without actually using it anywhere, just to keep it in your pocket, as it were, but it’s a bit pointless parting out the money unless you’re going to actually do something with it.
At this point, MikeCrowl.com is still available – I’ve just checked (!). Again. And so is MikeCrowl.net, and MikeCrowl.com.au. Guess the other Mike Crowls that exist aren’t interested in signing themselves up for all the blog world to see.
The site I checked on also told me, very helpfully, that I could have mikecrowpence.com, and pencemikecrowl.com. Hmm, not sure what I’d do with those, nor why they thought they were relevant. One of their other options was microphonecrowl.com, which is fun, but they also included miketriumphl.com, which has a lot of appeal. Maybe….

Nothing to do with this post, except that the title of this photo is kittywigs.com, which is about as ridiculous as some of the .coms I've included in this post.
