More on Links

I’ve come across a site called LinkandBlogChallenge.com which I’ll talk more about in a later post, when I’ve got to grips with it a bit more. It appears to have itself altogether, but I’ve struck a few problems finding my way around it. Maybe I’m just getting too old for the Net world.
Still the idea of Link and Blog is good, I think, and worthwhile pursuing. I am pursuing it, but it’s taking a bit of keeping up with it at this point!
As result of my visit to that site, however, I came across a rather engaging blog from a computer teacher from Thailand. He's into making money on the Net, and through him I discovered a link farm, called 1,000,000 links. Quite honestly, I don’t know that I knew much about link farms before, but it seems that they’re sites that automate the process of linking between blogs, with the aim of giving your site as many outside links as possible, however random those links may be.
At least 1,000,000 is quite up front about this in their FAQ. They say: ‘Yes, by common definition, this site is a link farm. We've employed certain techniques to avoid the label, but any site designed to accumulate a large number of links without narrative should probably be called a link farm.’
Okay….
And they continue on with this rather ingenuous paragraph: ‘If you have been advised to avoid link farms, and especially if you paid a big fee for that advice, then don't link to us. It won't make any difference, but you will feel better about the decision. Of course you can spend 30-40 minutes submitting your site to a link farm that calls itself a directory!
’
I’m not sure that many people pay big money to avoid getting themselves into link farms. I’ve seen several free articles on SEOs and links in my email alone recently.
