Twibes??
June 9th 2009 08:08
It's very strange listening to the guy on the twibes help page as he explains how twibes work and what you can do with them. It sounds as though he's got some sort of odd lisp whenever he says the word, twibes.
Twibes is yet another development of the twitter phenomenon. To quote the site: A twibe is a group of Twitter users interested in a common topic who would like to be able to communicate with each other. On each twibe's page, there is a list of twibe members. There is also a tweet stream that lists tweets from twibe members which contain key word tags. Tags are set by the twibe founder and are listed just above the tweet stream.
It's all pretty simple and depends on whether you want to make Twitter more or less complicated than it is. Given that Twitter is intentionally limited in scope, I guess this new approach adds something, but it'll be interesting to see how it survives. It's kind of a social network version of Twitter, I guess.
The twibes are already growing, with photography being the most popular as of this moment. It currently has 3331 members. So you can see that twibes is in its early stages yet. There are no twibes for Dunedin as yet, but NewZealand (as all one word) has got some 447 members, while New_Zealand has only three. Interestingly enough, Australia, which is an easier word to use in Twitter, has less than a hundred members at the moment.
You can make a twibe on any topic, of course, from natural acne treatment to alternative medicine, from bonanzle tweets (whatever they may be!) to TXARNG-RSP. (Your guess is as good as mine!)
I note that Christians, at this point, outnumber atheists three to one. But that's only the main groups: there are so many subgroups it's not funny.
So, if you've nothing better to do....go off and join a twibe. Hmmmmm....
