The only reason I looked up something called Irvingia Gabonensis is that I'm a naturally curious person who doesn't like to have such words pass him by without at least exploring what they could possibly mean. Of course it turns out that the words just mean yet again you take a pill to improve weight loss - this time it's from an African wild mango and the seed are supposed to make you thinner. Well, there you go. Sometimes it almost doesn't pay to be curious.
I was curious too about a Nike Football World Cup ad which the Guardian was discussing on their site, but it turned out they were discussing it because it's so bad. It makes no sense at all, and even having the director come on (in this video) and 'explain it' - at least that's what I think he's trying to do, but I had some music playing in the background at the time, and couldn't be bothered going back to check.
Sony has a bunch of adverts online at You Tube. It seems that ads are going the way of the music video: the more esoteric the better, the more peculiar, the more absurd, and the more meaningless. I was at a small party in a local pizza place the other night where they have a large screen playing music videos constantly in the background (fortunately with the sound turned off). With or without the sound they were a bunch of random visuals that meant nothing. Surrealism has found its true home in the music video.
